The Tigers overcame a three run first inning deficit to top the Red Sox 5-4.Â Denny McLain had the tough first inning but he buckled down and improved to 9-1.Â He gave up four runs (three earned) on five hits with a strikeout in six innings.Â Daryl Patterson was fantastic and he threw three no-hit innings to close the game out and he picked up save number one.
Mickey Stanly hit his fourth homer of the season, a solo shot in the sixth inning.Â Jim Northrup reached base three times with a pair of singles and a walk.
